Nalgonda: The women and children of Gandamvari Gudem of Nalgonda town on Sunday performed ‘Kappa Kamudu’, a novel programme to appease rain god Varuna’ for rains to save their crops.

They tied a frog to a wooden stick with a cloth and took out a procession. All the women of the Gudem poured water on it. Later, they offered Bonam to Goddess Gangamma and sang and danced around the frog.

The women prepared prasadam, called Varadha Payasam with the rice and jaggery collected from the households during the procession and distributed it to all. A villager Ramulamma said the same ritual was performed five years ago which was fruitful and hoped that it would work out this time also.
