Hyderabad: Even though the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board completed pipeline works on Brig Sayeed Road in the Bowenpally area nearly a month ago, the important bridge that was supposed to be constructed by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board is still a far cry.

This has resulted in road traffic spilling over to other smaller roads and bylanes in the area making commuting difficult not only to residents in the area but also to commuters who use this road to reach places like Kompally.

Residents claim that their suffering has increased ever since road repair and restoration works began on this stretch in February this year on this main stretch that connects to the Nagpur national highway.

Due to the closure of the road, commercial establishments have been incurring heavy looses as traffic was being diverted to the narrow neighbouring Dhanalakshmi Colony road. Commuters travelling through these areas said that in order to reach Bowenpally main from Tadbund junction they have to travel through a stretch that is full of potholes and speedbreakers.

And during peak hours, a minimum a 45-minute traffic jam is being reported from surrounding areas that are being used by commuters as alternate routes.

K Ravi Kumar, an administrative officer in a private hospital, said that it has become an impossible task for him to reach the office on time for the past four months.

He said the bridge that was demolished four months ago has not been restored until now. He also said that it is merely an impossible task for a four-wheeler to travel through the alternative road provided by SCB authorities.

The road has many commercial shops and establishments, but the potholes have not only slowed down the journey of the drivers, but it’s the pollution from gravel and soil that concerns the locals,” he said.

K Suresh Babu, a resident of Bapuji Nagar, says that the SCB and HMWS&SB officials have been playing a blame game and have been delaying restoration works. He said that SCB authorities who had promised to finish repairing works were yet to start the work.

In response to queries on the issue, HMWS&SB operations director G Rameshwar said the water board had completed the pipeline works a month ago and handed it over to the SCB authorities.

Reacting on the subject, SCB assistant engineer CH Uma Shanker said that after completing underground cabling of electricity and telecom authorities, they would take up the construction of the bridge and complete it within three months.
