Hyderabad: The Kacheguda police on Monday traced a scooter in which Rs 5.5 lakh belonging to a businessman, which was driven away in a case of mistaken identity.

According to Kacheguda Detective inspector Srinivas Reddy, the incident was reported at about 6.30 pm on Monday.

One Md Ali of Falaknuma in his complaint stated that he had gone to Kacheguda to meet his friend and then wanted to proceed towards Tolichowki to pay Rs 5.5 lakh as an advance towards a new house.

“Ali met one of his friends at Sangam Hotel in Kacheguda. After about 10 minutes, when Ali came out of the hotel, his scooter was missing.

A team immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the footage of CC cameras for verification. A person was seen taking away Ali’s scooter even though Ali had his keys with him,” said DI Reddy.

While officers started making enquiries, the hotel owner approached them and informed that one of his friends had asked him to lend his bike (Hero Passion). In a hurry, he put the key into Ali’s scooter and left the place.

“The person was called to the police station and when we checked the scooter, the money was present in the scooter’s dickey.

We also verified the claim of the hotel owner and found that the key fitted both the vehicles. The money was handed over to the complainant within an hour,” the DI said.
