Hyderabad: That Jubilee Hills is most-sought-after destination for movers and shakers of society is not as secret as a spinster’s age. Political bigwigs, business captains and entertainment moguls are all there living in the plush milieu.
Its infrastructure, roads, buildings, villas, mansions, malls and billboards make a onetime visitor feel like Hyderabad is one of the most sophisticated and ritzy cities in the country. But sadly, the ground reality sometimes seems to be different as some of the most frequented areas and much-used roads are not all spick and span.
A classic example is the road, right in front of the famed KBR Park, which has made headlines recently for all wrong reasons. For the past one-and-a-half-month, the road has been so damaged with all the asphalt pummelled and gravels strewn around, leading to several accidents (some petty and some fatal) and making the motorists riding an obnoxious experience, thanks to the poor quality of road works and notorious apathy of the civic officials.
Thousands of vehicles vroom past the road every hour, but those who cannot afford to keep the windshield closed to enjoy the cosy cool interiors of the swanky sedans and less fortunate bikers who are exposed to the heat and dust, the road has literally become a nightmare.
Bikers cover their faces either with hankies or with hands to escape the blowing dust apparently oblivious of the jeopardy. “I am a resident of Road No 35 and travel everyday through this road. The moment I cross Road No 3 Banjara Hills and start entering this stretch, my ordeal begins.
One day I was so blinded by the dust and slipped and fell when I applied sudden break to avoid hitting another vehicle. I tried to complain the authorities, but sadly no one could help me access them,” said Harish Khandimalla who runs errands at a studio in Jubilee Hills.
“It’s really a horrifying experience to ride bike on this road. Heavy dust storms due to damaged road suddenly create a murk and if you are not extremely careful, you are sure to fall,” said Divya Vani, an aspiring starlet who frequents this area.
Wayside vendors and park regulars said the condition of the road was so precarious and expressed wonder over the inaction of the concerned authorities.
