Hyderabad: To ascertain the level of progress of Haritha Haram programme at the ground level, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would embark on “surprise” visits in all districts beginning Monday.

Reviewing the implementation of the plantation programme with officials here, the Chief Minister asked all departments to evolve strategy at village level to make the programme a success and ensure that the target of planting 46 crore saplings in the State this rainy season is attained.

He would visit the villages and enquire people about the role of the officials in the making success the plantation scheme. He said the programme would serve as a benchmark for the efficiency of Ministers, MLAs, MLCs, people’s representatives and officials. The participation of Ministers, local people’s representatives and officials in plantation of saplings is mandatory.

On the lines of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), all the Municipal Corporations and municipalities in the State should also evolve division-wise action plans for the success of Haritha Haram.

The reports of action plans should be sent to the Chief Secretary. Plantation of saplings should be taken up as a mass movement in every nook and corner of the State by utilising the favourable monsoon conditions.

If necessary, fire tenders and water tankers of panchayats and municipalities could be utilised to water the saplings planted as part of the green drive. The officials should ensure the survival of all the saplings planted as part of Haritha Haram, he said.

Making it clear that there was no dearth of funds for the afforestation programme, the Chief Minister said about Rs 1,500 crore funds were available for it. Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister S Narsing Rao and other officials were present.
