Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is contemplating to lay about 1,000- km road on several major stretches in the city.

About Rs 50 lakh would be spent on laying 1 km white top road with three-and-half-metre width. Besides this, the corporation is also planning to construct stormwater drains across the city at the cost of Rs 10 crore per km.

According to a senior official in GHMC, the civic body has already prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to lay 1,000-km white top roads.

The official added that the road would be laid at areas including Indira Park, Srinagar Colony, Ministers Road, Chanchalguda, Chaderghat, Kachiguda, Shivam Road, Moosarambagh, Yousufguda, LB Nagar, Pragathi Nagar, Osmania University, Adikmet, Koti, Mehdipatnam and others.

The GHMC official said white top road would increase the life to at least 15 years when compared to a black top road. He said that the corporation would hand over the project to contractors after ensuring that the defect liability is for at least 15 years. He said that the contractor concerned would be held responsible for the maintenance of these roads.

Meanwhile, the civic body, as a part of 100-day action plan, spent Rs 336 crore to lay 912- km black top road. According to official sources, the same road would be milled to lay the 1,000 km white top roads.

The GHMC official further said that the corporation would also construct Bengaluru model stormwater drains on both sides of the road. He said there would be a provision to lay under cabling system and about seven ducts would provided the storm water drain cover.

He said that the decision to take up white top roads and the storm water drain project would be finalised after discussing with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday.
