Khammam: CPM politburo member Brinda Karat has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of violating the Forest Rights Act and appealed to the tribals to be united to achieve their rights.

She demanded that the government should immediately halt attacks on Podu cultivators and sought title deeds and bank loans to the eligible farmers.

Addressing a huge rally of CPM activists here, the politburo member alleged that the Telangana Chief Minister created a new national record by registering FIRs against cattle for tilling the Podu lands and sent them to police stations.

She alleged that the State government has been dealing with the tribals with a heavy hand for their fault of practising Podu cultivation for generations.

She described K Chandrashekar Rao as a friend of Modi and an enemy of girijans. “While Modi is driving the tribals from forests in the name of afforestation and safeguarding forests, KCR is hatching a plot to drive away tribals from forests in the name of Haritha Haram,” she said.

She expressed concern over the attacks on Dalits being continued even seven decades after the country becoming independent. The Forest Rights Act of 2006 is the result of the agitation spearheaded by Left parties during 2005, she recalled.

She accused the Centre of unleashing repression on Dalits, tribals, minorities and backward classes. She expressed concern over the attacks on tribals in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

CPM State Secretary Thammineni Veerabhadram wondered at the claims of State government of achieving Bangaru Telangana with the help of faulty GOs. He demanded the government that it withdrew the GO 123 honouring the court verdict.

He lamented that the government has been neglecting SCs, STs, BCs, girijans, minorities, MBC, who constitute a major chunk of the state’s population. Bhadrachalam legislator Sunnam Rajaiah and other prominent CPM leaders took part in the meeting.
