Nizamabad: District Collector Yogitha Rana said that all the saplings planted under the prestigious Haritha Haram programme should be protected by setting up fences with iron meshes around them.

Participating in a video conference from the Collectorate in the town on Wednesday, she directed the MPDOs to monitor and ensure that all the plants were watered on a regular basis without fail.

The District Collector said that the workers of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) were entrusted with the responsibility that all the saplings planted in educational institutions, government and private organizations and anganwadi centres were watered on a regular basis to prevent them from withering away.

The details pertaining to plants and workers should be made online and the growth of the plants should be scrutinised, she added. She said that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would personally monitor the growth of the saplings.

Yogitha Rana made it clear that a mother register should be maintained to record the growth of the plants and the MPDOs should take up the role of plantation officers.

She said that state level survival teams would pay a visit to the villages and mandals to supervise the growth of the saplings.

The District Collector said that the students of the Giriraj Degree and PG College would conduct a survey of 1.10 crore saplings that were planted.

She said that at least 200 workers should be mobilised in every gram panchayat for making fencing arrangements around the plants and added that 62 per cent of paddy cultivation was completed in the district and the workers were jobless.

She said that 20,000 MGNREGS workers were coming for works and efforts should be made to increase this number to 1.5 lakh.
