The varied forms and shapes of Lord Ganesh installed at pandals during the Navratri celebrations is a feast for the eyes of the devotees and onlookers, all alike. One such idol is the one installed by Sri Siddi Vigneshwara Utsava Committee near Geeta Bhavan Temple at Warangal Chowrastha.

The idol is made of areca nuts (commonly referred to as betel nuts) which are used during Hindu religious, marriages and other ceremonies is standing as centre of attraction among other Ganesh pandals in Warangal.

The idol resembles the deity at the historic Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple at Kanipakam village, Irala mandal of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh.

About 75 kilograms of nuts are used to prepare the idol, the Utsava committee president K Dayasagar told The Hans India. The idol like it is at Kanipakam sits in a well here also. A team of 20 skilled idol makers have been brought here to prepare the idol. It took nearly two months for preparing the Ganesh idol fully looking like Kanipakam deity.

The workers had to paste one after another betel nut in a meticulous manner. Clay, grass and different kinds of glues are used and the committee has spent around Rs 1.50 lakhs towards making of the idol, he explained.

It is worth an effort and expenditure as we wanted Ganesh idol at our pandal look unique,’ Dayasagar and the committee members said.

Nearly 2,000 devotees are visiting the pandal to offer prayers, they informed. ‘Lord Ganesh is a patron of the arts and of intellect and wisdom. So naturally his idols are artistic as the idols makers are inspired to make them so,’ averred the city Congress president Rajanala Srihari, who lives in the area.

A record winning micro artist Mattewada Ajay Kumar said, the form and shape of Lord Ganesh offers both flexibility and a challenge in terms of creativity.
