Hyderabad: With an aim to increasing the occupancy ratio in the air-conditioned buses, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has decided to provide Wi-Fi facility in its 115 a/c buses being operated in the GHMC limits.

The Wi-Fi services would be operational within four to five day’s time.According to TSRTC Greater Hyderabad executive director A Purushottam Naik, this is one of the smart initiatives taken up by the corporation since Hyderabad is considered to be a global city. “Commuters will be provided with free Wi-Fi for 20 minutes,” Naik said.

Already, free Wi-Fi services are being provided at Patancheru, Koti and ECIL bus stations, said the ED. Another step to increase the patronage, the corporation has decided to increase the validity ‘Travel as You Like’ (TAY) ticket from present 12 hours to 24 hours.

According to officials, there has been a slump in the sale of TAY tickets compared to previous years. Last year, 25 lakh tickets were sold but this year there has been a decrease by 7 lakh tickets.

On an average, the corporation sells 6,000 tickets per day for ordinary and 100 tickets for a/c services. With increasing the validity, the corporation hopes to increase the sales of the TAY tickets.

RTC officials are targeting a sale of 10,000 TAY tickets and 200 a/c tickets per day. The TAY ticket costs Rs 80 for ordinary service and Rs 160 for a/c service. “This extension service will be operational within a week’s time,” said Purushottam Naik.

The corporation has taken up a study and interaction with passengers to introduce buses on new routes. Based on the feedback, buses would be planned on new routes like 118 KM Kachiguda to Darga, 5RG from Risalabazar to Gachibowli and 17HN/290 Kushaiguda to NGOs Colony.
