Nizamabad: Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that tenders would be called for the purchase of fish seeds to be given to the fishermen. Participating in an awareness camp held for the fishermen at the Pragathi Bhawan here on Saturday, he said that the awareness camp was being held as the tanks and ponds were full to the brim owing to the heavy rains that lashed the district recently. That was why the government wanted to distribute the fish seeds, he added.
The Agriculture Minister said that the State government wanted to bring back the fishermen who migrated to other regions and encourage them to undertake aqua culture. He said that it was for the first time in the country that the Telangana government was providing 100 percent subsidy on purchasing fish seeds. He urged the officials concerned to take steps and ensure that there were no irregularities in the distribution of fish seeds.
Minister Pocharam said that if the fishermen work hard, they would be in a position to earn anywhere between Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 per month to uplift them from below the poverty line. They could atain financial stability and also educate their children, he added. He said that while the previous state governments in the undivided Andhra Pradesh released funds worth Rs 10 crore to 23 districts in the State, the Telangana State government released Rs 100 crore to ten districts for developing KG culture. Steps would be taken to ensure that each and every pie reaches the families of fishermen, he added.
He said that the Chief Minister had prepared guidelines for the benefit of the fishermen’s families.He directed the Assistant Director of the Fisheries Department to prepare a report on the number of lakes that covered more than 100 acres and the lakes which were smaller in size in the district and send it to the Irrigation Department. District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana urged the RDOs and Tahsilders to take steps and ensure that quality fish seeds were supplied to the fishermen Zilla Parishad chairman Raju, MLC PG Goud and others were present.
