Hyderabad: The Rio Olympics and her knee injury may have dealt body-blows to Saina Nehwal but she had something to cheer about on Tuesday.

In what is a one-of-its-kind distinction, the shuttler, who is just about recovering from injury that has sidelined her since Rio, has been appointed as a member of the august International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Athletes' Commission.

A letter to this extent was delivered to her from IOC President Thomas Bach late Monday night. "Following your candidature for the elections of the IOC Athletes' Commission during the Olympic Games Rio 2016, it is a great pleasure to appoint you in consultation with the Chair,

as Member of the Athletes' Commission," the letter said. The Athletes' Commission is chaired by Angela Ruggiero and comprises of nine Vice-Presidents and 10 other members. The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for November 6.
