Ramulu takes charge as BC Commission chief

Hyderabad: Finance Minister Eatala Rajender on Thursday stressed the need to eliminate casteism in the society.

He was participating in a programme wherein noted social activist and author B S Ramulu took over as Chairman of Backward Classes Commission, Juluru Gauri Shankar, Anjaneyulu Goud and Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan as its members.

Besides Eatala Rajender, Minister Jogu Ramanna, MP Suman and MLA Kishore Babu, who were present, congratulated Ramulu.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajender said, “Despite seven decades of freedom, our nation still faces caste discrimination, gender bias, atrocities and many maladies. There is an urgent need to address the caste-related issues and wipe out the differences,” he said.

The Finance Minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has constituted a BC Commission which should strive to reach the goal of transforming the State into Bangaru Telangana.

The Commission has to conduct an in-depth study on BC issues and the government was ready to address the same, he said, adding there were no proper accounts on BC population as the previous governments and parties treated the BCs as mere vote bank, he charged.

The State government launched residential schools for BCs and several welfare schemes besides implementing Kalyana Lakshmi for girls, he said. Promising to give all the support to BC Commission, Rajender asked it to submit a report to the government to do justice to all sections of the BCs.

Jogu Ramanna also expressed hope that the new BC Commission would focus on BCs’ issues. The government was committed to the welfare of the BCs with adequate funds, he added.

Ramulu said the BC Commission would strive hard to ascertain the problems and submit a report to the government. He also said the commission will try to do justice to all the sections through government assistance.
