Hyderabad: Government whip in Council Palla Rajeshwar Reddy on Monday asserted that the State government would build a new Secretariat complex even if the opposition parties created obstacles.

Addressing a press conference here, along with MLC K Prabhakar, Rajeshwar Reddy said that the government would construct a wonderful Secretariat even if the Congress leaders created obstacles. He criticised Congress leaders N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jeevan Reddy for making a representation to the Governor, opposing the construction of the new Secretariat.

He said that the present Secretariat complex was not built as per the needs of the people and there was no space even for a fire engine at the C-Block, housing the Chief Minister’s Office. He said that the existing buildings were old and there was no proper ventilation. The Congress leaders were making issues out of everything, right from Kalabharati to the Secretariat, he added.

The construction of Chief Minister’s Office was not for KCR, but for the CM of the State, he explained. MLC Karne Prabhakar slammed Telugu Desam leader A Revanth Reddy, saying that his Rythu Poru Yatra was intended only to gain political mileage and that it would not benefit farmers in any way.

The TRS leaders said that despite being in power in the State for nine years, the TDP did nothing for the welfare of farmers. The TRS MLC alleged that the over 15,000 farmers committed suicide during the previous regimes, yet those governments failed to provide any relief to distressed farmers then.

Accusing the TDP of adopting double standard on issues concerning farmers, Prabhakar said that on the one hand the TDP was opposing the redesigning of irrigation projects taken up by the government saying that it was anti-farmer drive; and, on the other, the TD government in AP had acquired over 30,000 acres of land yielding three crops a year in the name of capital construction. He said that the TD government was encouraging real estate business in AP capital region by acquiring lands meant for agriculture.
