No Chhattisgarh power till March-end

It may be recalled that Chief Ministers of Telangana and Chhattisgarh on November 3, 2014 inked a pact on supply of 1000 mw to Telangana by Chhattisgarh.
Telangana power distribution companies on September 22, 2015 entered into power-purchase agreement with the Chhattisgarh counterparts.
Delay attributed to cable laying from Dichpally to Maheshwaram not sticking to deadline
Speaking to The Hans India, electricity department ADE Raghava Reddy said major impediment in executing the agreement was lack of electric lines.
They should be laid from Wardha in Maharashtra to Telangana via Chhattisgarh. Soon after the agreement, work relating to laying cables from Chhattisgarh to Dichpally in Nizamabad district commenced. It will conclude by January second week.
The second phase works of laying the cables from Dichpally to Maheshwaram in Ranga Reddy district should be completed by March, but are likely to be extend till March-end.
According to Northern Power Distribution Company Limited Chairman-cum-Managing Director Gopala Rao, the current demand for power – 134 million units – is likely to increase to 200 million units during the January-March period. The NTPC produces 20 million units and SCCL 16 million units.
Non-conventional energy sources to contribute 35 million units to the state, which is to get 22 million units from Andhra Pradesh. The surge in demand is likely to be up by 50 per cent in near future.
The hydel power generation in Telangana has come to a standstill.Further, the area under cultivation is likely to go up to 35-lakh hectares in rabi with the increase of groundwater table with the recent heavy rains.
The rains ended three-year-long drought. Therefore, the farmers are preparing to cultivate crops in a big way.
According to expert on power sector Venugopala Rao, even after the electric cables are completely laid, the two states should ink some more agreements on fixing the unit price, its validity tenure and the likely hike in unit cost in case of escalation of production cost.
