Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s dream projects -- construction of superspecialties hospitals, permanent buildings with state of the art facilities for minority, BC, SC and ST Gurukulam schools and new Secretariat building, may not materialise during this financial year.
This is due to steep fall in revenue following demonetisation of high-value notes has led to crisis situation. The State government had in fact earmarked Rs 700 crore to take up these development works.
Highlights:
- In fact, a total of `700 crore had been set aside for construction of susperspecilities hospitals and permanent buildings for BC, SC and ST Gurukulam schools
- Apart from it, operation building new Secretariat complex on the existing premises too has come to a halt
Top officials of the State Medical and Health Department told The Hans India that plans had been made for construction of a new building on Osmania hospital premises, four super specialty hospitals in four different locations in and around Hyderabad and one more specialty hospital in Warangal under the Kaloji Narayan Rao Health University. The total cost of these projects was estimated to be around Rs 300 crore.
The officials had sought the CM’s appointment to make a presentation on the sketches and also the lands identified for the construction of the hospitals last week.
The officials received a communication from the Chief Minister Office (CMO) that the scheme would have to wait till February 2017 as the government priorities had now changed for the remaining four months of this financial year following demonetisation. On the instruction of the CMO, the officials decided to put on hold the projects until the Chief Minister called for a meeting.
The BC, SC and ST Welfare Departments have already been asked not to send proposals for the construction of buildings for the sanctioned residential schools during this financial year.
Nearly, 50 minority and 40 BC and ST residential schools are functioning in hired buildings in the city and districts.
The schools have been established to fulfil promise by KCR to provide KG to PG free education scheme’ this year. Officials said that they require nearly Rs 200 crore to complete the construction of all the buildings.
Roads and Buildings Department officials said that the construction of new Secretariat on the existing premises is also hanging in balance.
There are oral instructions from the CMO to officials to put on hold the project for time being as state is facing a difficult situation after scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
