Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as part of the transition to cashless transactions, has decided to facilitate the opening of bank accounts for dwellers in about 1,600 notified and un-notified slums across the city.
GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that he would hold a meeting with bankers in a couple of days to help set up special counters in all slums for opening bank accounts.
The GHMC chief said that the corporation would also provide special training sessions to slum dwellers so that they could easily adopt cashless transactions and pay bills online.
He also conducted a review meeting with zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners and other officials in this regard.
The GHMC Commissioner said that currently only 12 per cent of the payments were being made online, though the corporation would go cashless from January.
He said that as of now citizens could make all online payments by logging on to www.ghmc.gov.in and MY GHMC App.
He said the corporation would provide swipe machines at Citizen Service Centres at the earliest for the benefit of citizens.
