The Commission of Inquiry to study the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims in Telangana headed by former bureaucrat G Sudhir on Saturday recommended 9 per cent to 12 per cent reservations in jobs and education for empowerment of the Muslim minorities. 

Hyderabad: The Commission of Inquiry to study the socio-economic and educational status of Muslims in Telangana headed by former bureaucrat G Sudhir on Saturday recommended 9 per cent to 12 per cent reservations in jobs and education for empowerment of the Muslim minorities.

The panel, which was formed in March 2015 to study the socio-economic conditions of Muslims, made 12 recommendations to the government to empower the Muslim community.

The panel said that the government should include Meher community of Muslims in the SC community and provide them quota. It also suggested the state government to give the status of second language to Urdu.

Likewise, it also asked the government to immediately recruit Urdu teachers for government schools.

The Commission asked the government to take steps to increase the number of Muslim women in employment.

The panel suggested the government to provide for sub-plan for Muslims in the state budget and create a special fund to encourage start-ups by members of Muslim communities.
