The railway authorities on Monday cancelled or diverted several trains ahead of severe cyclonic storm Vardah which is set to make landfall near Chennai.

Hyderabad: The railway authorities on Monday cancelled or diverted several trains ahead of severe cyclonic storm Vardah which is set to make landfall near Chennai.

The South Central Railway (SCR) partially cancelled Vijayawada-Chennai up and down trains between Gudur and Chennai.

Nellore-Sullurupeta MEMU and Sullurupeta-Chennai MEMU trains have also been cancelled, according to a statement from SCR.

Vijayawada-Chennai Central Pinakini Express and its pairing train were diverted to run via Gudur, Renigunta and Arakkonam stations.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Chennai Central Andaman Express, Puri-Chennai Central Weekly Superfast Express, and Ahmedabad-Chennai Central Navjeevan Express were also diverted to run via Gudur, Renigunta and Arakkonam stations.

Chennai Central-Howrah Coromandel Express and Chennai Central-Ahmedabad Navjeevan Express were also diverted.

The other diverted trains include Chennai Central-H. Nizamuddin Duronto Express and Madurai-Dehradun Superfast Express.
