Thoguta (Siddipet): The residents of Vemulghat, one of the villages affected by the proposed Mallannasagar reservoir, passage of “Right to Fair Compensation, Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Bill of 2016” in the Legislative Assembly has made no difference. They have resolved to continue the fight against land acquisition in their village.

Thursday was just another day for the farmers in Vemulghat. They started the day with a few people continuing their protest the Deeksha Sthali (protest site) where relay hunger strike has been going for last 200 days.

Some of the leaders in the village were taken into preventive custody on Wednesday, so that they could not participate in Prof Kodandaram’s deeksha at his residence in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The villagers, who have been closely following the developments in the High Court and the Legislative Assembly, found fault with the way the new bill was introduced.

Some of the villagers had already read the bill and were of the opinion that it was in no way different from GO 123, which had been struck down by the court.
