Hyderabad: It’s now the turn of the city Mayor to move to a new residence-cum-camp office. If everything goes fine, Mayor of Hyderabad B Rammohan will shift to a plush camp office by mid 2018.
The State government is of the considered opinion that there should be a permanent building to serve as the Mayor's residence-cum-camp office, on the lines of the ones for the Chief Minister and the Governor.
Highly placed sources in GHMC said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had cleared a proposal in this connection at a recent meeting.
Decrying the negligence of erstwhile governments in this regard, KCR offered to also provide a 10-member staff, including computer operators and others, in the proposed camp office to facilitate resolution of citizens’ grievances at the earliest.
Sources said that the residence-cum-camp office had become a necessity since the Banjara Hills residence of the present Mayor cannot accommodate at a time more than six citizens who may visit to submit representations on various issues.
The Mayor urged the Chief Minister to construct the proposed residence-cum-camp office in such a manner that it can accommodate 50 citizens at a time.
The Mayor opined that such an office-cum-residence would help resolve several grievances instantly. After the GHMC elections,
the State government had explored various options to allot for the Mayor a house in the Ministers' Quarters on Road No 13, Banjara Hills; part of College of Nursing; a portion of the State Minorities Commission’s office or any of several other buildings, but none of them materialised.
The government later felt that, instead of converting old buildings into Mayor’s camp office, it would be better to have a permanent camp office for the Mayor.
The officials concerned have been asked to scout for a suitable place and submit a report within 15 days.
