Hyderabad: The Telangana Assembly adjourned sine die on Monday but it will not be prorogued. A special session to pass the bill on reservations for Muslims would be convened after a week or so.
Replying to the discussion on appropriation bill in the Assembly, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said that the government would go to Supreme Court seeking permission to allow reservations beyond the 50 percent limit.
It will also urge the Centre to permit the state government to enhance the reservations on the lines of Tamil Nadu. He said in Telangana the backward and scheduled class sections form 90 per cent of the population.
Hence there was a fit case to seek permission to increase the percentage of reservations in the state. He also announced increase in the mess charges to the students of government educational institutions based on the recommendations of the committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari.
The mess charges for the pre-metric students, from third standard to seventh standard, would be hiked from Rs 750 per month to Rs 950 per month and for students of eighth standard to 10th standard the increase would be from Rs 850 per month to Rs 1,100 per month, KCR said.
Similarly, the mess charges for the students of Intermediate to degree colleges would be increased from Rs 1,050 per month to Rs 1,400 per month. For students in professional courses, the hike would be from Rs 962 to Rs 1,500 per month, PG students it would be revised from Rs 682 to Rs 1,500 per month and for students of degree courses the raise would be from Rs 520 to Rs 1,000 per month.
The Chief Minister said that revised mess charges would benefit 18 lakh students and would put a financial burden on the state’s exchequer to the tune of Rs 117 crore per year. He said that the services of the home guards would be regularised soon and the director-general of police has been studying the issue. The government would consider raising the salaries of Asha workers and second ANMs as well, he added.
