The Telangana government has re-introduced monthly financial assistance to former Olympians and national and international sportspersons, some of whom are living in an indigent condition.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has re-introduced monthly financial assistance to former Olympians and national and international sportspersons, some of whom are living in an indigent condition.

Former Olympians Mohammed Zulfakaruddin, I.S.H.H. Hamed, former international player Bir Bahadur (all football) are among those who will receive Rs. 10,000 per month.

Former international hockey player K. Satyanarayana, Arjuna awardee Dennis Swamy (boxing), international kabaddi player G. Vasudev Yadav and national player A.C. Mallesham will also get Rs. 10,000 per month.

Former national kho-kho player Chandra Prakash Biradar and former international Tennikoit player Sameera Begum will receive Rs.7,500 per month.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reintroduced the scheme for financial assistance on the direction of Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao.

The scheme was started in January, 2015 and was implemented for one year. It has now been re-introduced with effect from April, 2017 and will be implemented for one year, said an official statement.
