Students must take special interest in Rain Water Harvesting: Water Board MD
Appreciating the initiative by Rishi Engineering college of Samatha Nagar, Kukatpally for constructing rain water Harvesting Pit in their premises, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) MD M Dana Kishore requested various educational institutes to take interest in constructing pits to harvest rain water.
Hyderabad: Appreciating the initiative by Rishi Engineering college of Samatha Nagar, Kukatpally for constructing rain water Harvesting Pit in their premises, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) MD M Dana Kishore requested various educational institutes to take interest in constructing pits to harvest rain water.
The Water Board MD was addressing an awareness program on constructing Rain Water Harvesting Pits at Vayuvihar Community Hall, Bhagya Nagar on Monday. The program was conducted under the presence of Prakriti NGO where water board MD was invited as the chief guest.
Dana Kishore said, “Students understand the technicalities and benefits of harvesting rain water. It is a part of their curriculum. They must take a special interest in explaining to their society the importance of restoring ground water levels for the coming generation.”
The water board, he said would provide any support for the construction of rain water harvesting pits in various Government, Private and educational institutes and buildings. He insisted that everyone should make it a part of their life to have a rain water harvesting pit at every colony, private organisations and government buildings.
Water Board chief further said that about 5000 rain water harvesting pits which were constructed last year at a price of Rs 3.5 crores raised the ground water levels by 2 meters.
Dana Kishore said a larger impact can only be created if people take it up as an individual responsibility. J Satya Narayana, Special Officer, Rain Water Harvesting Department, GM Anil Kumar with Jayshree from Prakriti NGO were amongst others who attended the awareness program.
