Sircilla: Finally, it’s social media that has come to the rescue of schoolchildren in pulling down a dilapidated building, which is on the verge of collapse and posing threat to their lives. Thanks to the Rajanna-Sircilla District Collector Krishna Bhaskar for reacting to the grievances of the people à la the Minister KT Rama Rao, whose twitter handle now became helping hand to masses.
Highlights:
- Dharmaram youth tweeted about the threat the ZPS students are facing
- Responding to the tweets of Dharmaram village, Collector Krishna Bhaskar directed the officials to demolish the dilapidated building
Despite several requisitions from the locals that the dilapidated structure on the premises of Zilla Parishad School at Dharmaram village could collapse at anytime and likely to pose threat to the lives of schoolchildren and staff, the authorities concerned didn’t ensure its demolition.
Against this backdrop, the youth of the village tweeted (from @ManaDharmaram) to the Rajanna-Sircilla District Collector, @Collector_RSL, @KTRTRS and @TelanganaCMO explaining the peril that was lurking behind the broken-down building. Buttressing their cause, the youth also posted a few photographs of the dilapidated structure.
They urged the Collector to ensure the demolition of the building before the school reopens. It’s learnt that the authorities including the sarpanch, who is also the chairman of the school committee, failed to take up demolition works.Responding to the tweet, Collector Krishna Bhaskar directed the District Education Officer (DEO), D Radha Kishan, to submit a report on the status of the building.
Responding to the tweet, Collector Krishna Bhaskar, who received a report on the status of the building from the DEO, ensured the demolition of the building late on Saturday. Locals and the residents of neighbouring villages extended their support in razing the structure. Later, youth thanked the Collector though their twitter handle. The youth handling the twitter, who wanted to be anonymous fearing local leaders’ wrath, told this newspaper:
“After failed to get response from the authority concerned, we chose Twitter and it paid off. We owe a lot to the Collector for his speedy response.”Talking to The Hans India, Krishna Bhaskar said: “Social media, especially the Twitter allows the people to get in direct contact with the administration. It provides a window of opportunity for the people to spell out their grievances that very often get stuck in the bureaucratic rigmarole.”
