New Delhi: A Joint Action Committee of Granite Quarry Owners Associations of the country and Small Scale Granite Industries Association members has lashed out at the Centre for its GST proposals on granite industry.

The Telangana and AP Granite Quarry Owners Association president, V Ravichandra and Telangana State Small Scale Granite Industries Association honorary president, V Ajoy Kumar and its president, R Nageswar Rao opposed the Union government’s GST proposal on granite industry. R Nageswara Rao and others told the media persons here on Thursday that granite should have been included in the 5 per cent slab.

The raw material for granite was available extensively only in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rajasthan States. ​However the industry was facing myriad problems and burden on the owners had only increased when the two Telugu states imposed 12.5 per cent tax while the Rajasthan government continued with the 5 per cent slab.

The hiked tax in Telugu States would be a burden on the granite industry and also on the buyers. People prefer cheaper versions of Chinese tiles, they said.
