Hyderabad: Action plan for implementing welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes with an estimated outlay of Rs 1,596 crore is likely to get clearance from the State government in a week’s time.

According to officials, the action plan would benefit nearly 62,979 people belonging to the Scheduled Castes. Of the total outlay as much as Rs 1,358 crore would be earmarked for subsidy component.

Majority of funds would be spent for land purchase, land development and self-employment schemes. Besides, the government would be taking up skill development programmes in a big way during the current financial year.

The existing schemes of providing training in driving and providing cabs, skills to establish small scale industries would continue. In addition to this, efforts are on to identify new areas to provide skill development that would provide employment to the beneficiaries.

As part of this new initiative skill development programme has been initiated in collaboration with the National Academy of Construction (NAC). The training programme cost Rs 40,000 per candidate.

Also, following the demand identified for technicians in dialysis steps have been taken to provide training to those who have completed their intermediate course. The beneficiaries would be provided training at Apollo at an estimated cost of Rs 1.3 lakh per candidate and this would help them in getting employment with a starting salary of about Rs 20,000 a month.

The training programme in collaboration with National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal yielded positive results in securing employment for beneficiaries. Steps would be taken to continue the programme during the current financial year also, said a senior official from the Telangana State Scheduled Caste Co-operative Finance Corporation (TSSCCFC).
