Only two days after a customer complained of plastic rise being used in a Biryani point in Saroornagar, Hyderabad, another customer has approached the police claiming he bought rice from a grocery store in Meerpet which later turned out to be plastic rice.

Taking into action, the task force officials of the civil supplies department raided the store in Meerpet and seized the samples.

The continuous flow of rumours of plastic rice being sold on a large-scale at various stores in Andhra Pradesh on social media has triggered panic among the public.

While the reports are yet to be verified, the department of weights and measures (W&M) officials in Telangana are keeping tabs on the method of rice adulteration by forming a special enforcement team.

If any citizen files complaint on plastic rice with the department, action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, informed the W & M Assistant Food Controller, Srinivasa Rao.
