Hyderabad: Despite tall claims of Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari to construct toilets in all government schools before they reopen, the Hyderabad District Education authorities have managed to repair mere 75 toilets out of total 727.

The DEO had sanctioned 727 toilets for 262 government schools in the city. He asked the officials to construct and repair toilets in four phases. In the first phase (sanctioned in January), 222 toilets have to be constructed or repaired in 85 government schools.

In phase II, 378 toilets in 120 schools (sanctioned in March), phase III, 93 toilets in 45 schools (sanctioned in May) and in phase IV, 34 toilets in 12 schools (sanctioned in May) have to be constructed.

A senior official in District Education Office told The Hans India, that the DEO authorities had completed toilets construction in 33 government schools out of the total 262. He said that the toilet construction and repair work is under progress in 227 schools and work is yet begin in two schools.

When asked about the delay, the official said ``still we have two to three days to construct and repair toilets.’’ He is confident that all repairs will be completed in two days.

Earlier, during the question hour in the Legislative Assembly in the recently concluded session, Education Minister KadiamSrihari urged all legislators from the ruling party as well as from the Opposition to bring to his notice if these facilities are not available at schools by the scheduled date.

He even assured that each of the 25,000 schools across the State will have at least one toilet. But due to officials’ apathy, toilets in only 33 government schools have been repaired and constructed.
