Hyderabad: As many as 50 pilgrims, who were stranded at Simikot in Nepal due to bad weather, were air lifted to Nepalgunj. Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya received a call from one pilgrim, Murthy, saying that 24 persons were stranded for three days due to bad weather at Simikot in Nepal. Most of them are from Hyderabad and they were on return journey from pilgrimage to Kailash Manasarovar.

They had reserved flight tickets from Kathmandu to Bengaluru via Mumbai by Jet Air Ways for July 16. They sought the help of Bandaru Dattatreya requesting him to air lift them from Simikot to Kathmandu as there is no other mode of transport available as it is mountain area. It was informed that no flight services were available due to bad weather and that air lines, hotel and travel agents are looting people and forcing them to book choppers which they could not afford.

Dattatreya immediately spoke to the Ministry of External Affairs requesting them to extend all necessary help for the safe return of passengers at the earliest. After the intervention of senior officials from Ministry of External Affairs, 50 passengers were air lifted from Simikot to Nepalgunj and are heading to Kathmandu. Ministry of External Affairs, with the help of Nepal government, is making necessary arrangements to airlift the remaining passengers to Nepalgunj.
