Khammam: All the State-run hospitals will be developed on par with that of corporate ones, the Minister for Health Dr C Laxma Reddy said.

Inaugurating Rs 20-crore Mother and Child Health Centre on the premises of district hospital here on Sunday, he said the government was committed to provide healthcare facilities on par with the standards of corporate entities.

Towards this goal, the government is either modernising the existing hospitals or establishing new ones, he said.
“Besides providing sophisticated equipment and infrastructure in the hospitals, the government is also employing required staff to bolster the system,” Reddy said.

Khammam has the first cancer screening centre in the State, he said, referring to the other facilities such as upgrading the ICU with an outlay of Rs 26 lakh and Rs 3.5 crore equipment installed in the Mother and Child Health Centre.
The Minister said that a trauma centre would also come up in the hospital in about a month.

Reddy said that government would open 40 dialysis centres across the State in a month’s time, and also has plans to establish ICUs in 20 hospitals. He said the number of deliveries in State-run hospitals has gone up ever since the KCR Kits Scheme was introduced.

Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao said people have now started to believe in government hospitals, giving credit to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He urged the Health Minister to give more priority to Khammam in modernising the hospitals.

District Collector DS Lokesh Kumar said Mother and Child Health Centre would start working full-fledged in about a fortnight. He said ever since the KCR Kits scheme was introduced, the government hospitals in the district witnessed 56 per cent of increase in deliveries.

Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MLC Balasani Laxminarayana, ZP chairperson G Kavitha, Mayor G Papalal, P Krishnamurthy, Pidamarthi Ravi, Kondabala Koteswara Rao, RJC Krishna, DM&HO Kondal Rao and hospital superintendent Dr Madan Singh were among others present.
