Hyderabad: The agricultural sector in the State is all set to receive uninterrupted power supply from February next year. Addressing the media here on Monday, Chairman and Managing Director of TS Transco D Prabhakar Rao said they were now fully geared to supply uninterrupted power to the farming community. He said the Transco has spent Rs 1,600 crore to strengthen transmission and distribution lines.

Prabhakar Rao said that the 24x7 power supply would be initially introduced on an experimental basis in three districts of the State like Medak, Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts to 9.85 lakh farmers. Later, it would be extended to other parts of the state, he added.

The CMD said that they have estimated that the energy consumption per year would go up to 68,000 MUs after implementation of round the clock power supply to agriculture sector which consumes 13,000 MU to 14,000 MU per year.

He expressed confidence that Transco would meet the demand without any problems. He said that the two thermal power stations, Bhadradri Thermal Station at Manuguru with 540 MW and the TPS at Kothagudem with 800 MW would commence production by December of this year. They would be connected to the grid by March of next year, he added.

Explaining the power scenario in the State, he said that the installed capacity of power production has reached to 13,095 MW which was just 6,574 MW before the formation of the state. Another 13,000 MW would be added in the next three to four years.

Prabhakar Rao said that peak demand for power in the State on July 24 this year was 8,300 MW against 6,890 MW of peak demand on the same day last year.

He informed that the 5 x 800 Yadadri Power Plant project has received environmental clearance from the Centre and the State Pollution Control Board has also given its consent to the project. The first two units of the plant would be constructed in the next three years and rest of the units would be completed with four months gap.

The CMD said that the services of 23,000 outsourced employees would be regularised soon, Still, the Andhra Pradesh government has to clear Rs 1600 crore arrears that it owes to TS TRANSCO.
