Hyderabad: Tangled electrical cables hanging low are a common sight for pedestrians in the city. The cables which are usually set at a certain height for safety and security purposes are now hanging low and have become life threatening causing unnecessary problems to pedestrians.

The electrical cables at Srinagar Colony in Banjara Hills are in a complete state of mess. The cables are hanging close to the ground-level and are usually in the way of pedestrians and motorists.

Satyanarayana, a watchman at one of the apartments at Srinagar Colony said, “I know these cables are dangerous but nobody is bothered to report about it and if we say anything nobody listens to us.”

Raju, a private sector employee from the area said, “Until and unless the people here face any difficulty, nobody will say anything about it.” He added that such issues only remain a topic of discussion as social responsibility in colony meetings. Apart from residential areas, the electrical cables are seen hanging at the nearby pan shops and other stalls in the area.

Moreover, the workers at the area seem to be unaware of the threats involved with hanging electrical cables. Rama Devi, tea stall owner, next to which few cables are hanging loose said, “We do not know what these electrical wires are and nobody has told us that it is dangerous.” All attempts to contact officials from the electricity department have gone in vein.
