Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been clueless about the 30 per cent of its leased properties and open lands. This came to light when the civic body embarked on geo-tagging of its estate properties.

According to GHMC official, the civic body has recently embarked on a mission to geo-tag its properties and vacant lands. The corporation has given away about 2,000 properties and land on lease for 99 years and 25 years.

During geo-tagging it has been noticed that about 30 per cent of the leased properties were missing physically. But according to a highly-placed source in the GHMC, markets, community halls and open lands were under occupation of private persons due to absence of agreement papers.

When queried about the same subject, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the GHMC has only completed 40 per cent of geo-tagging. During geo-tagging, they did not take properties under dilapidated condition into account. However, the official said that some of the open lands were under the occupation of private persons and will recover them in the due process.

The official further said that once the civic body completes the geo-tagging, the corporation will not only get the clear picture about the leased properties and open lands but also enhance the annual revenue of Rs 40 crore through rents.
