Congress embark upon 100-days farmers' awareness programme

Hyderabad : Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has informed that the Congress party would take up 'Indiramma Rythu Bata', a 100-day awareness programme for farmers, from September 18.

Addressing a press conference after chairing the TPCC Extended Executive Committee meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party would organise awareness meetings for farmers in all nine erstwhile districts of Telangana from 18th to 22nd September. He said the programmes would primarily guide the farmers in updating their land records. The party will also provide a booklet to farmers on their rights. He said that the Congress party was organising the programmes so to provide a voice to the weak and poor farmers, especially those belonging to the SC and ST communities.

The decision was taken during the TPCC Extended Executive Committee meeting which was attended by AICC SC Cell chairman K. Raju, TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, CLP leader K. Jana Reddy, Leader of Opposition in Council Shabbir Ali, All India Professional Congress (AIFC) South India Convener Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, party legislators, DCC presidents and other leaders.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Indiramma Rythu Bata programme would conclude on December 28, Congress party's formation day, wherein flag hoisting event will be conducted in all the villages across Telangana State. He said that the programme has been named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi whose year-long birth centenary celebrations will conclude on November 19.

He alleged that the TRS was trying to usurp upon the rights of farmers in the name of Rythu Samanvaya Samithis. To foil these attempts by the ruling party, he said that the Congress would educate the farmers on their rights in all villages. He said training programmes for Congress workers would be held in Karimnagar (10 am to 1 pm) and Sangareddy (for Medak Dist - 3 pm to 6 pm) on September 18. Similarly, training programmes will be held in Adilabad and Nizamabad on Sept 19; Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar on September 20 and Khamman and Nalgonda on Sept 21. On September 22, the training programme will be held in Warangal and it would be followed by a massive public meeting with Singareni workers in Bhupalpally.

The TPCC chief said that training programmes would upgrade the party cadre on revenue records rectification and land survey being conducted by the TRS Government. Further, they would be sensitised on how to pressurise the TRS Government for fulfilling the promises like three acres of land for Dalit families and double bed room houses for poor. He said that the Congress workers would play an active role in formation of Rythu Samrakshana Samithis in all villages. He said the Congress cadre would be equipped with literature on relevant subjects. He said party workers would visit door-to-door in all villages to collect applications for 3 acres of land for Dalits and double bed room houses. He alleged that the TRS Govt failed to achieve even one percent of what it promised during elections.

It was also decided during the meeting to strengthen the All India Unorganised Workers Congress across Telangana State. AIUWC Vice-Chairman Irfan Alam was also present in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the TPCC chief also appointed a committee, headed by Pargi MLA T. Rammohan Reddy as Convener, for activation of booth committees to take up Congress campaign effectively at booth level. The committee will also ensure registration of nearly 4 lakh office bearers into 'Shakti' platform of TPCC to facilitate effective communication among the Congress office bearers. MLAs C. Vamshichand Reddy, S.A. Sampath Kumar, N. Padmavathi Reddy and MLC Akula Lalitha are the other members of the Committee.
