“Until June this year, as many as 7,584 fire accidents took place in the State out of which almost 4,000 incidents occurred only because people threw cigarette butts without properly putting them out. Most of the time, the butts get in contact with dry garbage on the roads and that spread fire,” said V Papaiah, Regional Fire Officer (Central region), Disaster Response and Fire Services Department.

The amount of littering and garbage dumped on the roads by the citizens not only impacted the hygiene in the city, but also caused numerous fire accidents. “People carelessly litter on roads and are not even slightly aware of the consequences.
