Hyderabad: Six new judges have been appointed to the High Court at Hyderabad after the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, put his seal of approval on the names.

The Joint Secretary in Union Law Ministry issued a notification to this effect on Monday. DVSS Somayajulu, Kongara Vijayalakshmi, P Keshava Rao, M Ganga Rao, Abhinand Kumar Shavili and T Amarnath Goud have been elevated as judges of the High Court from the Bar.

Except for Somayajulu who practised in Visakhapatnam district courts, all others are practising advocates in the High Court. Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan is likely to swear in the new judges on September 21 or 22.

The sanctioned strength of the High Court is 61 judges. Presently, there are 27 judges only. With two judges set to retire in the coming two months, it will mean effectively 25 judges. With the addition of six new judges, the strength will reach 31 judges out of sanctioned 61 judges.
