Hyderabad: Tourists to the Golconda Fort have something new to explore. A 40-minute film on the history of Hyderabad that dates back to the Bahmani Sultanate to the present times and a museum with rare photographs of the Deccan region.
These added attractions are not from the Tourism Department but an entrepreneur, Mohammad Mukarram, who deals in the famous Hyderabadi pearls. “Every time a tourist came out of the Golconda Fort after watching the sound and light show, the feedback always was a wow. But there was always an urge for more information. It was then that I started thinking about a film that captures the history of the region,” said the 41-year-old Mukkaram.
It took Mukkaram, a gemologist, two years of research before taking up the project. Besides the research, he had to run around to get permissions from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to shoot monuments, including the Golconda Fort and other suitable places.
Started in March this year, 3D World has now become a major hit with tourists. Till date close to 25,000 tourists have watched the show. On an average 100-150 tourists watch the show every day and during holidays the number touches 500.
The sound and light show at the Golconda Fort is about the history of Hyderabad but the show at 3D World covers the Nizam State from 1347 onwards.
The film is available in English and Hindi and the voice over is given by Aziz Naser of Angrez film fame, which is screened at the two mini-theatres with a seating capacity of 60 each. The museum above the theatre at 3D World has over 100 rare photographs of Hyderabad. “My family had a collection of rare photos and some were procured from Raja Deen Dayal collection. History buffs just love the collection and many students of Ancient History and Archaeology keep coming,” said Mukarram.
A staffer at 3D World says, “The history show complements the sound and light show and many tourists who cannot visit all the monuments in and around Hyderabad get a chance to understand the rich history of the Deccan.” Mukarram, who is planning to have the show in Marathi, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam, is going in for a slick editing to save tourists’ time.
There is also a small collection of replica of the Nizam’s jewels at the museum. For now, he is content taking feedback from tourists on how to improve the facilities.
