Hyderabad: All opposition parties have decided to organise a Satyagraha on October 3 at all mandal headquarters in the State opposing GO 39 regarding formation of Farmers’ Coordination Council (Rythu Samanvaya).

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) chairman Prof M Kodandaram said the JAC and all Opposition parties would organise Satyagraha at all mandal headquarters in the State.

Kodandaram said there was a propaganda by the government that the JAC was opposing the programme to cleanse land records. “We are not against cleansing of land records but giving the entire work to one or two individuals is what we are against,” said Kodandaram. There were elected representatives of gram panchayats and there was Revenue Department, who should be taking care of the work, he added.

Kodandaram said that gram panchayats were formed as per the Constitution. The government should strengthen Gram Panchayats by giving funds but should not take away their rights. He demanded that the government cancel GO 39 and strengthen Gram Panchayats.

He asked the people from all sections to protest against GO 39 in whatever manner they could. He said people could take up protest at mandal headquarters, stage take up hunger strike, hold protest rally etc.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the powers of local bodies had been taken away after the TRS came to power. He said it was not ‘Rythu Samanvaya Samithi ‘but ‘Rythu Gharshana Samithi’.

TDP leader Ravula Chandrashekar Reddy criticised Governor E S L Narasimhan visiting Nagasala in Jadcharla to inspect the programme. “We have seen in the past that the Governors used to restrict themselves to the Raj Bhavan and Chief Ministers used to go to the people, but here the entire scenario is reverse,” said Chandrashekar Reddy.
