Hyderabad: Cashing in on the craze for selfies, Nehru Zoological Park has come up with a bright idea to woo visitors to the zoo -- “selfie with elephant!” To facilitate visitors with a safe zone while taking selfies, zoo authorities have built an elevated bridge near the pachyderms’ enclosure providing a high-view point.

According to a state wildlife department official, a series of measures have been planned to provide facilities to the visitors. As part of this, an elevated bridge has been added to provide a different experience to the visitors while viewing elephants and other inmates in the nearby enclosures from the elevated footbridge.

The bridge has been inaugurated on the final day of the wildlife week celebrated at the zoo. Speaking to The Hans India, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden P K Jha said that as part of the wildlife week, the department has established new facilities.

These include an elevated bridge to give new experience to the visitors and a fossil museum. The fossil museum has been established in association with the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI). It showcases the fossil wealth from the state.

The main objective in creating the new facilities is not only to make the zoo an attractive destination but also to make it a landmark in Hyderabad. Also, the move is meant to give a learning experience, and create awareness among the visiting groups of school and college students, and general visitors, on the importance of wildlife.

Ullas Karat, an expert on tiger from the forest and wildlife department of Karnataka, and other experts from the Jim Corbett National Park attended a workshop organised as part of the national wildlife week.

The experts, besides sharing their experience with the wildlife officials, have also given suggestions on the improvements planned by the department and the zoo authorities.
