Vijayawada: A roundtable on Special Category Status organised by AP Pratyeka Hoda, Vibhajana Haameela Sadhana Samiti here on Friday, passed a resolution to take up Chalo Assembly agitation with the support of left parties, the Congress, YSRCP and other non-ruling parties soon.

The organisers announced the date of protest would be announced soon after consulting heads of the parties concerned. Sadhana Samiti president Chalasani Srinivas came down heavily on the Centre for neglecting Andhra Pradesh. Citing a newspaper report, he said that the Central funds allocation to AP was just 0.4 per cent under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

While the total allocation during the first six months of current financial year was Rs 18,002 crore, AP was given a meagre Rs 71 crore, he said and added the allocation was a slap on the face of those who have been ignoring Special Category Status issue and looking at packages to the State.

Srinivas said only four per cent funds were released to the State under Amrut Scheme intended for urban development. CPI secretary Ramakrishna flayed the State government for its failure to get funds from the Centre. None of the promises made by the BJP were fulfilled, he said and added Special Category Status could be possible only with the united fight of political parties. Ramakrishna said he would consult other party leaders to announce the exact date for Chalo Assembly stir.

YSRCP city working committee president Malladi Vishnu opined there would be no impact even if protesters call for Chalo Delhi. The State government should treat the issue as a fight for self-respect of Telugu people. The State government should be exposed for its failure to fulfil poll promises, he added. Andhra Mahila Samakhya secretary Durga Bhavani felt that there was an urgent need to intensify the agitation and ruling party leaders should be grilled over the issue during their ongoing ‘Intintiki TDP’ programme.

YSRCP city president Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao said that his party’s private bill on the SCS would come for discussion in parliament soon. MLC Kathi Narsimha Reddy wanted the Centre to resolve all the issues pertaining to the State. CPM State executive member Krishnaiah and Suribabu of Congress also spoke.
