Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, who also holds Education portfolio, asked principals of junior colleges and officials to give their best to make the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) number one in the country. Addressing a workshop attended by the junior college principals here on Friday, Srihari said the government had been taking all necessary steps to strengthen the junior colleges, providing necessary facilities, adding that salaries of contract and guest lecturers had already been hiked. Similarly, the government had already given promotions to the government college lecturers as principals. As the government had been doing everything possible to strengthen the junior colleges, he asked them to work hard to secure better results.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government had sanctioned Rs 275 crore for construction of new buildings, additional classrooms, furniture, installing CC cameras, biometric machines, lab and games and sports material, computer systems and RO plants, he said. That apart, Rs 160 crore had been spent on salaries of lecturers, he said. Though the government had brought out GO 16 to regularise the services of the contract lecturers, the same had been scrapped by the courts following some people going to court against the government’s order, he added.
It was against this backdrop that the government had doubled the salaries of contract lecturers. He said currently there were 1.80 lakh students studying in government junior colleges and asked the principals to work hard to attract more students to ensure that the strength in the government junior colleges should cross 2-lakh-mark in the ensuing academic year.
He also said the government had decided to provide Rs 1 lakh to each junior college for running their day-to-day affairs. Further, the government had decided to start 20 coaching centers, one each for boys and girls in erstwhile 10 districts of the State, during the ensuing summer vacations, to prepare them for EMCET, NEET, JEE and competitive examinations, he said. He asked the lecturers and principals to volunteer them to provide coaching. Srihari also said that a decision would be taken on free bus passes and mid-day meal to junior college students in the rural areas from the next academic year after taking approval from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. TSBIE Secretary Dr A Ashok, Government Junior College Principals’ Association president Narsireddy and others attended the meeting.
