Hyderabad: It is three days since the parking policy came into force but there is no respite for people as they are forced to pay exorbitant parking fee at railway stations, single screen movie houses and lesser-known malls. The Hans India did a recce in Hyderabad and found out that at several places owners of commercial complexes, malls and single screen movie houses are still collecting exorbitant fee.

Gaping holes in the parking policy has resulted in lack of clarity and as a result, owners are taking advantage says T Vivek of Forum for Citizen’s Entitlements (FORCE), a group founded by retired civil servants. “We have written a letter to the Minister of Municipal Administration, Government of Telangana to relook at the parking policy and fill the gaps,” he said.

The GO 63 dated 20/3/18 on parking policy leaves many things unsaid and there is ambiguity on the word ‘commercial complexes’, says Vivek. Mahender, a resident of Marredpally asks, “What if someone goes into a commercial complex and visits an educational consultant. There is no bill provided but he is providing a service.”

Similarly, there are several services that many firms provide at commercial complexes that do not provide a bill and citizens are forced to part with parking fee. While malls such as Inorbit, SLN Terminus, Reliance, Central and others received orders regarding the parking fee, many lesser known malls in the city have not. When The Hans India team visited IMAX near NTR Gardens on Tuesday, we found that customers had to shell out parking fee.

Arun Kumar, a resident of Banjara Hills says, “There should be clarity over collection of parking fee. People should know where they have to pay and where they don’t have to.” As regards to the parking fee at Secunderabad railway station, the manager says that it does not come under the state government so they are exempted. M Dayanand, a resident of Moula Ali asks, “If the parking fee has to be removed or reduced it should first be at the railway stations as lakhs of people visit.”
