Check list of traffic control and safety measures issued

Hyderabad : The Telangana Government on Saturday issued a check list of traffic control and safety measures for urban areas in the state.

Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar issued orders to this effect on Friday. The check list includes vital elements relating to safe and efficient traffic operations on urban roads.

According to the GO, the Urban Local Bodies will invariably take necessary care to incorporate the traffic control and regulatory measures at the design and construction stage for the roads during maintenance of existing roads or construction of new roads. The ULBs will invariably take necessary care to incorporate the traffic control and regulatory measures at the design and construction stage for the roads during maintenance of existing roads or construction of new roads. The ULBs should make provision for the traffic control and regulatory measures in the tenders. These provisions are to be made mandatory for through roads with a minimum carriage way width of 9M and above.

The GO also stipulates that all new roads and all existing roads taken up for recarpetting (more than 9 meters wide) shall also carry out these provisions. Road safety audit may be undertaken to take preventive steps to minimize accidents on urban roads.

The urban local bodies are also advised to consult IRC: 67-2012: Code of Practice for Road signs and IRC : 35-2015: Code of Practice for Road Markings and IRC: SP-55: Code of practices for traffic management at work zones.
