Hyderabad: Upset over the reports of police personnel’s involvement in civil disputes, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar on Wednesday sent out an audio message to all his officers to refrain from such practice.
In the audio message sent through WhatsApp, the Commissioner narrated an incident of a couple who visited him in his office on May 7 around 9:30 pm. “Two days ago, when I was sitting late in my office, a middle-aged couple came to see me. It’s almost 9:30 pm. The lady was in tears while explaining her problem.
In a civil dispute, the husband was picked up from the house and brought to the police station and kept in the lock-up. Later, he was slapped in front of his wife by the local Sub-Inspector. When the wife reached the police station, a lady constable rudely behaved with her. She was also detained at the police station for 30 minutes. She was not even allowed to make any phone calls to any of her relatives or her advocate or friends.
The police team which had gone to the residence of the family was not in a police car, but in a car belonging to a leader of Opposition party,” said the Commissioner.
Then the Commissioner of Police posed a series of questions to the police officers: “What impression will it give to people? Where is the justice? My dear officers, please think about it. Ask your conscience. What image we are creating for ourselves if we continued to do this kind of things.
Is it what our society expects from me, from us. Is it what the government has given us so much of resources, so much of trust on us? Is it not our responsibility to reciprocate by a good gesture? How will you feel if your dignity is trembled?”
He noted that he was sharing the incident in anguish. “This incident happened two days back, but I couldn’t resist the temptation of sharing this with you.” The Commissioner ended the message recalling the police duties and how they should behave with the public. “Friends, we have no choice but to serve society and serve with dignity.
We have to respect their dignity at any cost. Nothing is more important in life than self-respect and dignity.”
SI suspended
The Hyderabad Commissioner of Police suspended Chilkalguda Sub-Inspector K Rajesh on the charges of involving in the civil dispute. The Commissioner said: “We follow a policy of zero tolerance as far as the bad conduct of officers is concerned towards the public. Police should not get involved in civil disputes.”
