Hyderabad: Taking serious note of the problems being faced by the residents of KPHB Colony and its neighbourhood, Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar on Thursday directed the officials concerned to ensure that local issues in Kukatpally area should be addressed in a week. He also asked the officials to address issues pertaining to rainy season including water logging, potholes, water stagnation, over flowing of drains and timely removal of debris.

Arvind Kumar conducted a review meeting with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials and took stock of the works being taken up in Kukatpally zone. Arvind Kumar said the problems being faced by the public during monsoon should be addressed at the earliest. The Zonal Commissioners and senior officers should inspect regularly and take immediate steps to address the vulnerable points.

He asked the Assistant Engineers to convene at least four ward level meetings with the local resident welfare associations in a couple of days and interact with the public to have first-hand knowledge of the problems faced by the public. The managers of Water Works Department, Traffic Police and GHMC sanitation officials should also be part of the team.

The GHMC officials should rise to the occasion and solve the problems faced by the public during the rainy season. Apart from the vulnerable points identified by the officials, the complaints coming out of the interactive session with the public should be addressed by next week, he said. Arvind Kumar also asked all the GHMC officials to download the GHMC app and similarly, all the officials should open a twitter account and post works relating to clearance of debris, drains de-silting and other works and upload photos before and after the completion of the works.

Asking the officials to wear the GHMC jacket while working on the field to have a visible impact, Arvind Kumar told them to take up a special drive and clear all the tree branches which are left on the roads. GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy asked the officials to respect the citizens and the public would appreciate the works being done. He said in a couple of months, 350 km footpath would be laid in the city and as such officials should ensure that no encroachments of footpaths be allowed.
