Warangal: Officials seems to be on a spree of accepting and throwing ‘Green India Challenge’, a drive that aimed at planting three saplings and nominating three persons to accept the challenge. On Thursday, it was the turn of the Warangal Urban District Collector Amrapali Kata and Municipal Commissioner VP Gautham.
After planting saplings at Waddepally tank bund, Amrapali said that it’s time for all the denizens to accept the challenge and contribute their mite to the cause of nature.
Amrapali said: “The plan is to plant 62 lakh saplings in the Urban district under Haritha Haram phase-IV. We are not just focusing on plantation but also have chalked out plans for their survival.” The green drive will cover all the public places, 35-kilometer medians, 55 parks, six major tanks and all government offices, she added. Later, the Collector threw the challenge at the Mayor.
Gautham said that the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority both have geared up for the plantation of 15 lakh and 10 lakh saplings respectively.
We have plans to turn the colonies as Oxygen Zones, he said, stating that all the plants will be geo-tagged besides taking measures for their protection.
District Forest Officer Arpana said that saplings raised in 33 nurseries are ready for distribution through various State departments. Corporator M Swapna and GWMC horticulture officer Sunitha were among others present.
