Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammad Shabbir Ali on Tuesday challenged Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister KT Rama Rao to show at least one road in Hyderabad where a vehicle can travel at a speed of 10 KMs per hour.

Addressing the media, he said that he was ready to come to any place suggested by the Minister to prove his allegation. He said that most of the roads in Hyderabad were devastated due to the negligence of the government. He said that it took him three hours to reach Gandhi Bhavan due to the traffic jam.

He criticised that a woman has delivered in the auto due to the severe traffic jams. “Even ambulances were unable to reach the needy,” he said.

Shabbir Ali said that though the MAUD Minister makes tall claims on developing the city on par with Dallas and Istanbul, he was unable to get the roads repaired.

He alleged that the government has scrapped tenders being called for construction of foot over bridges in the city on BOT basis to benefit to its near and dear.

The decision of the government has caused a loss of Rs 207 crore to the exchequer, he alleged. Shabbir said that with the works of Mission Bhagiratha roads in the villages were devastated.

Shabbir Ali alleged that the Chief Minister did not come to the Secretariat and he has been planning early polls to cover the failures. The administration has become a stone in the hands of a mad man which could hit anyone if hurled, he said.
