Narsapur (Medak district): Several women candidates who appeared for the VRO exam at the Little Flower High School centre, here, were allegedly forced to remove their ‘mangala sutrams’ and toe rings (‘mettelu’) after being told they would not be allowed to enter sporting the two items. Among them was Anuradha of Annas agar village in Andhole mandal of Sangareddy district.

Women broke down while removing their ‘mangala sutrams’. Consequently, members of their families staged a demonstration at the centre. The police reached the spot and persuaded them to call off the protest, following which calm was restored.

Joint Collector G Nagesh visited the centre and took up an investigation into the causes of the incident. Later officials clarified that it was caused by lack of awareness among the invigilators and that there was no such rule. They stated that action would be taken against those responsible.
