Miyapur: The western areas of the city face a lot of civic issues, be it potholes, water pipe leakage or worse roads. Recently, there was a massive drainage overflowing issue at Miyapur metro station. This happened on Saturday morning. Though, the residents and commuters immediately complained to the officials, there has been no response yet.
The people at Miyapur said there should be no further delay and authorities need to check the condition of existing pipelines and fix the drainage at once. The State government is spending crores of rupees on advertisements, calling upon people to prevent wastage of water. Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) also has caller tunes which say, “Water is precious; every drop should count,” but who will implement this? When will the officials help the residents and commuters of Miyapur on this issue, they ask.
Roads in Miyapur are severely affected because of the overflowing drainage water. It is also causing severe hardships to the residents and office-goers. Several complaints are made to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials, and the residents are irked over lack of response from the officials. Commuters who use Metro are seen cursing the government for not paying attention to the perennial problem of drinking water leakage at the Metro station.
A social activist Shaik Salauddin said, “The drainage water issue has been persisting for a week. I have been complaining to the officials regularly, but they have not turned up to fix it yet.” The present drainage system is so defective that a good shower would turn the whole area into a collection of small lakes and pools. Consequently, the whole traffic is dislocated, and life comes to a grinding halt, he bemoaned. A regular pedestrian said, “It is really disappointing when all the area people have been complaining to the officials about the issue but there is no response. From Miyapur to the exiting point of Metro road we can only find drainage water everywhere.”
